National Engineers' Week

Yes, the U.S. Congress annually dedicates an entire week to the practice of Engineering! And the PEO coordinates Oregon's annual celebration with activities that highlight the engineering profession and encourage young people to consider an engineering career. This is our week to shine, and our members do their best to make it so!

Setting & Maintaining Technical Standards

Everyone knows terms like UL or the "National Building Code", yet few of us recognize the extent to which these and other formal, Technical Standards impact and regulate our daily lives. We may even find the whole topic quite boring. But the standards are in place, and play an important role across our Society.

These standards are usually maintained by dedicated volunteers, many of whom are licensed engineers, and members of the PEO (or our sister organizations across the USA).

Today, rapid technical development in our society threatens to outpace our ability to ensure Public Safety. Our members recognize this situation and strive to balance a desire for Change with the relative safety of traditional, proven methods and behaviors.

Our members help to develop and maintain these (fundamentally social) Standards by volunteering their time to participate in various Technical Societies and Standards-setting organizations across the United States.

Engineering Ethics

Our members have pledged to conduct themselves in an ethical manner, and to obey the PEO's Statement of Engineering Ethics.
